Sodium Metabisulphite
Sodium Metabisulphite or sodium pyrosulfite is an inorganic compound of chemical formula Na2S2O5. The substance is sometimes referred to as disodium Metabisulphite. It is used as a disinfectant, antioxidant, and preservative agent.
Sodium Metabisulphite appears as a white crystalline or powder solid with a slight sulphur odour. Toxic by inhalation. Strongly irritates skin and tissue. Non-combustible, but may decompose to emit toxic oxide fumes of sulphur and sodium when heated to high temperature. A corrosive acid when mixed with water. Used as a food preservative and as a laboratory reagent.
